Birjand-Dark-Greeen-granite

While Persian travertine and marble are famous for their aesthetics, Persian Granite is the choice for durability. Iran is home to some of the world’s most resilient granite, with massive reserves in provinces like South Khorasan and Sistan and Baluchestan.

Popular Persian Granite Varieties

Iranian granite is prized for its high density and low water absorption, making it ideal for high-traffic flooring, kitchen countertops, and external cladding.

  • Nehbandan (Gray/White): Often called “Cotton Flower” granite. It has a distinctive salt-and-pepper look and is one of Iran’s most durable stones, frequently used for subway stations and public squares.
  • Natanz (Black & White): * Black Natanz: A deep charcoal to black stone with fine grains.
    • White Natanz: A bright, uniform white granite that is more affordable than Brazilian or Indian equivalents.
  • Birjand Green (Picasso Green): A world-famous “exotic” granite. It features deep forest green tones with intricate veining, often used for luxury feature walls and furniture.
  • Yazd Red: A bold, vibrant red granite that remains color-fast even under heavy UV exposure, making it a favorite for exterior facades in sunny climates.
  • Toyserkan Black: Known as one of the “blackest” granites available. It is extremely dense and takes a mirror-like polish, often used for premium monuments and high-end interiors.

Buyer’s Checklist for Granite

Loading Port: Most granite is processed in Isfahan or Tehran but shipped through Bandar Abbas. Check if the supplier offers “FOB” (Free on Board) or “CFR” (Cost and Freight) pricing.

Water Absorption: Persian granites like Nehbandan have near-zero water absorption, making them superior for wet environments compared to some Chinese or Indian granites.

Standard Thickness: Export slabs are typically cut at 20mm or 30mm. If you are sourcing for heavy-duty paving, request 40mm+ custom cuts.

Finish Types: While Polished is the standard, Flamed or Bush-hammered finishes are highly recommended for outdoor walkways to provide slip resistance.
